Greetings everyone in the Lord Jesus
Christ.
Reverberating in my head for a few days now has been the words to a hymn we
sang together not long ago: "Let us labor for the Master from the dawn 'til
setting sun, let us talk of all His wondrous love and care; then when all of
life is over and our work on earth is done and the roll is called up yonder,
I'll be there."
It's a mission statement of sorts, isn't it? Or at least it has the essential
elements of one - it lays out what
we need to do, and it sets a goal.
What we need to do is pretty simple (conceptually): work for the Master,
our Lord God. And a big part of that work is simply speaking of Him -
telling others of the love we know, of the divine care we receive... And
telling others that it's there for them too, and that we can show them the
Way... This is not the entirety of what serving God is, but it certainly is
part of it, and it is certainly something He can use you in.
The goal is also clear: to get to life's appointed end and be able to
rejoice that His work was done through you. Then eternity awaits "up
yonder".
So today, fix your focus. Turn your eyes "up yonder". Set
your heart's
compass right and get pointed towards Heaven. Paul said it best:
"Set
your mind on things above, not on things on the earth" (Colossians
3:2). And
also, "I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in
Christ Jesus" (Philippians
And with that objective clearly set, let us all work - purpose in our hearts
and set out to speak of Him in whose power we have our own trust, that we
might be able to join the Apostle in saying, "Him we preach, warning every
man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man
perfect in Christ Jesus" (Colossians 1:28).
In the end, perhaps even a few more will "be there" for that heavenly
roll call.
In Jesus, looking for His glorious appearing,
