Basic Sunday Morning Service FAQ:
Q. What’s a typical service like?
A. What we do is pretty simple and straightforward... Take your seat, and at 10:00 the Worship Leader will start the service by leading some songs of praise to the Lord. By about 10:45 or so, we call up all of the young children and pray for them and send them downstairs to Sunday School. We will then make a few announcements and then get down to business teaching from the Bible. That’s really important - we love this and we take it seriously. When the message is complete, just before noon, we’ll usually sing one more song and then are dismissed. You’ll notice that many people hang around for a while just to talk, pray, or get questions answered. We’re here for you and for each other. And the Lord is here for all of us all the time.
Q. What kind of music do you sing?
A. The Lord has blessed us with a really good praise band that plays mostly a contemporary style of worship music. But we like traditional hymns too. Typically, the musicians will lead the congregation in five or six contemporary songs, and then we’ll sing a few classic hymns with piano. Our music facilitates worship for the glory of God and this mix of styles seems to be just right for us.
Q. What should I wear?
A. Be comfortable. No dress code here.
Q. Do you take an offering during the service?
A. Yes. We think it’s an act of worship to give to the Lord. It is a blessing to be able to give back to Him a little of what He’s given to us. But this isn’t what we’re after. The offering is primarily a way for those of us who have committed to FBC as our church home to support the work of the ministry God has called us to. There’s no obligation to give... In fact, we don’t expect visitors to. So leave your wallet at home.
Q. Do I need to bring a Bible with me?
A. Most of us do. But we have Bibles in the seats for your use too. Pastor Lou preaches from the New King James Version (NKJV), by the way.
